A day in the Alps of Haute Provence

A day in the Alpes de Haute Provence

Just 20km from Apt begins the Alpes de Haute Provence, a region that offers a very different setting, and one that is just as fascinating as the Vaucluse.

We recommend that you start at Céreste, a village whose history dates back to the Palaeolithic period, followed by the small village of Oppedette, which appears to have remained unchanged for several centuries and overlooks vertiginous gorges.

Further north, you'll find the impressive dome of the medieval castle of Simiane la Rotonde, the rose garden of the Valsaintes abbey and, finally, Banon for its famous goat's cheese wrapped in vine leaves and a mythical bookshop, Le Bleuet, the largest independent bookshop in a rural setting, housed in a house whose every room is filled with books.

On your way back to Apt in summer, you can pass through Saint Christol to admire the lavender fields.
