A day in Marseille

A day in Marseille

Just 1h20 from Villa Bam Bam by freeway, you can easily spend a day here to get away from it all and discover this endearing and mischievous city full of surprises.

You'll find below a few ideas for shopping, restaurants, walks and culture. And if you'd like to know how we spent our day in Marseille, here you go: we started the day by wandering through the Maison Empereur, a 19th-century hardware store, a jewel, a huge maze of timelessness, impossible to leave without buying something. Next door, l'Epicerie Idéale for a selection of cutting-edge products, and a street further up, rue longue des Capucins, we enter the Marrakech souk with its spice stores. Once your appetite is whetted, head for one of the many restaurants in the area, or take the shuttle to Les Goudes by boat for lunch after admiring the coastline from the sea.

Our Favorite Tables

A Michelin-starred restaurant overlooking the old port and the Bonne Mère: A table in the South. A few tables in a hushed setting, seasonal cuisine inspired by Marseilles' terroir, sublimated by chef Ludovic Turac, an unbeatable view of the Old Port and the Bonne-Mère, and perfect service.
Unusual: Les Beaux Mets, in the Beaumettes prison. Reservations (and a clean record) required.
Trendy: Tuba Club in Les Goudes. The menu is a little expensive, but the setting is magical at the entrance to the port, the waiters attentive and the atmosphere festive.
Table de Quartier (facing the sea): Café de l'Abbaye. A popular spot for Marseillais to take the pulse of the city and enjoy the sunset over the sea.
Classic: A great classic nestled in the Vallon des Auffes since 1952, Chez Fonfon offers one of the best bouillabaisses in Marseille.
Authentic: Le Grand Bar des Goudes. By people who love the Goudes, delicious and generous seafood cuisine.
